Buddy was with Jerry's grandfather that day at the track. Buddy remembers that Jerry's grandpa won a thousand dollar and he was with Leo, an obnoxious little kid that used to to steal Buddy's soda bottles and cash them in for the deposits.
Buddy also remembers that after Jerry's grandpa hit the daily double, he gave Leo a hundred dollars, and told him to give fifty to his sister.
